The agility of the organisation

Videoconferencing, working from the cloud… Just a few examples of flexible working. Especially in these times when more companies are embracing agile working. The static workplace is disappearing more and more and the flexible workplace is coming into its own. But what does that mean for employees and their workplaces?

The worker is central

In the traditional way of working, employees spent their time predominantly at the office. With the agile approach, employees work independently of time, place and device. This offers employees greater freedom while they also remain more active and engaged. There is scope for collaboration, less bureaucracy and optimal interaction. And that is exactly what companies expect of their employees. This agility in the organisation also demands new skills from employees.

Agile means dexterous and flexible. As such, Agile is an approach that focuses on dexterity. A team carrying out a project using an Agile approach assumes that circumstances will change during the project, knows how to respond to this and thus ensures the end result is not jeopardised. Flexible, yes? Companies that employ agile methodology use multi-disciplinary teams, engage in a great deal of face-to-face communication, frequent sharing of information so that everyone is on the same page, and constant modifying of projects.

By being flexible as an organisation and continually adapting to the changing needs of the market and or clients around us, one can anticipate these changes promptly. And you can achieve greater success as an organisation. Evidently, not only do results improve, employees are happier and less stressed. There is more balance. But this way of working places demands on the working environment. Traditional open plan offices and static meeting spaces are outdated.

"We are implementing Activity Based Working (ABW) nationally at PwC. We employ Agile working as part of this. Employees regard this as a positive experience. It promotes collaboration and the exchange of ideas", according to David Serra Sr. End User Services employee, PWC Nederland.

Flexible office

If an organisation wants to make the most of agile working, the working environment also needs to be flexible in design. This means that organisations need to create different office spaces with facilities suited to the activities. For example, scrum event rooms, team spots, a lounge setting, focus workspaces and quiet spaces.

BakkerElkhuizen developed the Honeycomb with this in mind. A multi-functional, flexible sit-stand table. A table, which, as the name suggests, is honeycomb-shaped, so it can be used modularly. Thanks to its shape, you can actually create any configuration for any situation you desire. For example, seminars, brainstorming sessions, drinks and meetings. The height of this table is adjustable, so you can switch from a seated position to an active position with 1 press of a button. "Agility" both physical and mental, ensures greater creativity and productivity.

Eat, Meet and Work desk

Our philosophy is that every workplace should suit the prevailing need. Whether you are working at a desk, attending a meeting, busy brainstorming or even having lunch, you should always have the appropriate solution to hand. This contributes substantially to the health, productivity and comfort of employees.
